The 2023 Mazda CX-50 features a five-seat, two-row cabin with a spacious trunk behind the second row. You can also split-fold the second row in a 60-40 configuration and gain more cargo space. Lower trims feature black cloth upholstery, but higher trims come with black leather. Choosing any of the Turbo trims also gives you the option of terracotta brown leather.
Dual-zone climate control is standard on all except the base 2.5 S trim. On lower trims, there’s an 8.8-inch touch screen for infotainment functions, while a 10.25-inch unit is provided on higher trims. Also available on higher trims are dual rear USB charging ports, heated and ventilated front seats, and a Bose 12-speaker premium sound system. Lower trims still receive front USB ports and an 8-speaker sound system. The highest 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus trim also includes a wireless phone charging pad.

2.5 Turbo variants receive the same engine but with a twin-scroll turbocharger and Mazda’s i-Stop system. Here, the engine delivers 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque on 93 octane premium unleaded gas. In 87 octane unleaded gas, Mazda quotes output of 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet.
All variants of the 2023 CX-50 come with a 6-speed automatic transmission and Mazda’s i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive system. Sport and Off-Road modes are available on 2.5 S variants, while 2.5 Turbo variants add a Towing mode.
Turbo variants boast a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, while non-turbo variants can still tow up to 2,000 pounds. EPA-estimated figures for 2.5 S variants are 24 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. Choosing a 2.5 Turbo variant sees 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway figures. A 15.9-gallon fuel tank is standard across the range.
